Why should I register and become a member?
Here at 4radio, member registration is really important because each individual registration helps to make us better.
By registering with us youre showing your support for what we passionately believe in: making great radio. Think of it as siginng a petition to demand better radio, more of the time. You see, what were trying to do is convince Ofcom (the holders of the radio keys) to give us a full, all-singing, all-dancing radio licence. We're aiming to provide you with a great new selection of national digital radio stations offering more of the great radio programmes you can hear on this site. And the more subscribers we have, the more support we can demonstrate.
And thats not all! For us, it's about being part of something. By registering with us, you'll be able to log in to the forums and,
- offer suggestions on what you want to hear more of
- tell us how we could do things better
- or, make us feel great by telling us what you love. (We'd like that!)
The more we hear from you, the better informed we are to keep making great radio. Plus, it's good being part of something right from the start!
Finally, we solemnly promise not to send you any unwanted mail unless you have opted to stay in touch with us. Although we might send out newsletters from time to time, these are optional. You decide if you want to hear from us or not.

What formats can files be downloaded in?
Channel 4 Radio supports MP3 and WMA. As the widest-used downloadable audio file, we believe that the freedom offered by MP3 is ideal for everyone. The majority of our programmes will be in this format.
However, some files have DRM (digital rights management) restrictions insisted on by the content owner. We use the Windows Media DRM system so those files are only available as WMA files which play in Windows Media Player. Note that Windows Media files cannot be played on ipods, just as AAC files from iTunes cannot be played on Windows Media systems.
When you download any show, the format (MP3 or WMA) is included at the end of the filename, e.g., channel4radio_BBFM_AISLEYNE_0806.mp3. To download and play a WMA file you must be using Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 or above and have Windows Media Player installed. Otherwise, we cannot deliver you the key to open the files so you can start listening to them. Be aware that Mac users can only use IE 5.0 and so cannot receive licenses for WMA files.
Can I listen on my computer, iPod, other portable MP3 player, mobile phone, PDA?
Any device that plays MP3 files will play the MP3s downloaded from the Channel 4 Radio site. In the case of protected Windows Media files you will only be able to listen to these files on Windows Media Player-enabled devices, such as most computers, portable MP3 players and mobile phones – but not iPods.
Can I share files between my different devices?
Yes, you can. However, you will be limited to no more than 5 devices for protected Windows Media files. Also by the terms of your agreement with the Channel 4 Radio site you are also limited to how many times you can burn any content to CD.
